Set your primary email address to Normandale

You may have multiple email addresses as all Minnesota State institutions are in the same Office 365 Unified tenant. This means that all students and all employees have a single mailbox for their email and Office 365 access for all the institutions they have worked at and attended. You can have up to one student account (StarID@go.minnstate.edu) and one employee account (StarID@minnstate.edu). When you transfer to another Minnesota State institution, all your email, files, and Office 365 access go with you.

Your email address is Firstname.Lastname@my.normandale.edu (students) or Firstname.Lastname@normandale.edu (faculty/staff). If you currently or previously attended or worked at another institution, you will also have another email address for that institution, such as First.Last@institution.edu. Emails to both addresses go to the same mailbox. Only one of those email addresses can be the primary (FROM:) email address.

Changing your primary / FROM: email address
  1. Go to https://starid.minnstate.edu

     
  2. Select Sign Into Profile

     
  3. Sign in with your StarID and StarID password.

     
  4. Select Office 365 Contact and then select Contact Card
    Note: if your contact primary email is already set to the following, you don't have to change anything; STOP here.
    1. Employees: First.Last@normandale.edu
    2. Students: First.Last@my.normandale.edu
  5. Select a new primary email. The primary email selected also determines the default institution.
    1. If you are an Employee, click on Select New Employee Contact Card and select your Normandale email address: First.Last@normandale.edu
    2. If you are a Student, click on Select New Student Contact Card and select your Normandale email address: First.Last@my.normandale.edu
Note:
  • Only one email address can be selected as a primary email address. This is the email that will show as your FROM: address.
  • All email addresses assigned to you at any other MinnState institutions are assigned to this email account, so this inbox will accept any email sent to all of thes addresses. However, your FROM: address will have to be selected in steps 1 through 5 above and this will be the default FROM: email address on all email that you send.

Select your new primary email address to be shown in the Global Address book. 

** The system will then need about 4-24 hours to update the Global Address List.  You should then be able to search for your name in Outlook and it will default to the new email address.

To find out what your Office 365 email address is, please log in to your email. Then click on your picture in the top right corner and click on profile. Your primary email address will be listed on your profile page.
