Issues Connecting to Drives Off-Campus (Faculty/Staff)

All Normandale Faculty and Staff have access to multiple drives on their computer. These drives provide access to network resources. You can access these drives remotely as long as you are connected to our VPN. Network Drives can be accessed by opening File Explorer on your Windows computer. You will see the drives on the left side or you can click This PC and see them on the right side.

My drive is missing or I can't access it

  1. Make sure that your Always On VPN (AOVPN) is connected.

  2. Click to Open File Explorer.

On the left side, click on “This PC”.

You will see a list of the connected drives on your computer.   If the drives shows a red X on it, double click on the drive.  This will re-establish the connection (green light).

  3. Please fully shut down and restart your computer.
    1. How to check when your computer was last restarted.

  4. Try to open the drive using a direct path:
    1. Open File Explorer
    2. Copy the path below and paste it in the address bar.
      1. Home (H:) drive - call the Help Desk for the path (located in the user's AD object)
      2. Inet/Shared (I:)  - \\EmpFs1\ShrDirs
      3. ISRS (U:)  - \\EmpFS1\Apps\MnSCU
    3. Are you able to get to the drive this way?

  5. Please provide the following information to the Help Desk for further troubleshooting:
    1. Is AOVPN connected?
    2. When was the last time your computer was rebooted?
    3. Are you able to connect to the drive using a direct path?
    4. Do you see the drive with a red x or has it completely vanished?
    5.  Please copy any errors you get
