Common Course Delivery Methods at Normandale

1. On Campus Courses

  • On Campus courses will meet at Normandale at 9700 France Ave S. Specific dates and times will be indicated n the Course Schedule
  • Students can expect to spend up to 2 hours of homework outside of class per credit hour of the course (in a Fall or Spring term).
  • Summer terms will require a more condensed meeting and homework schedule with more hours per week expected for in-class and out-of-class homework.

2. Synchronous Online Courses

  • Synchronous online means that you will meet virtually. Instructors will either use the Zoom platform, or the Teams platform. Either way, you will need to login with your Minnesota State credentials.

NOTE:

Synchronous courses will meet primarily through required meetings on Zoom or Teams. Successful students will have computer abilities, reliable internet access, a webcam and microphone. 

Synchronous online courses may require the use of a built-in or external webcam for asynchronous online proctoring or other audio/video coursework.

3. Asynchronous Online Courses

  • Instruction for Asynchronous courses is delivered primarily online through D2L. There are no scheduled in-person, on campus, or virtual class meetings. 
  • The instructor will hold office hours for students at a scheduled time each week, or by appointment, if students have questions or want to meet. 
  • Successful students will have computer abilities and reliable internet access.  
  • These courses may require the use of a built-in or external webcam for asynchronous online proctoring or other audio/video coursework.

4. Blended/Hybrid Courses

  • Part of the instruction for the course is going to be in person on campus, and part will be online/asynchronous in D2L.  
  • The dates, time, and location for the in-person meetings of the course are listed under "Meeting Details" in the course schedule.
  • These courses may require the use of a built-in or external webcam for asynchronous online proctoring or other audio/video coursework.
