Overview
Normandale students who are required to set up a side-view camera for the Honorlock test proctoring software can opt to use their smartphone as the side-view camera for a proctored test in Honorlock.
- However, the Honorlock side-view camera setup with a smartphone is not officially supported by Normandale or Honorlock.
- Technical support agents may refer you to better options should issues occur before, during, or after your proctored test in Honorlock.

Limitations of using a smartphone
- The steps for using a smartphone as a side-view camera are semi-complex and require an understanding of computers, operating systems, and other aspects of technology.
- Chromebooks, Normandale lab/on-campus computers, and school-provided Chromebooks or iPads are currently not supported with the side-view webcam if using a smartphone.
Alternate Recommendation: Using an external webcam
- You can check out a webcam from the Normandale IT Service Desk for a 24-hour period (limited availability)
- You can make an appointment in the Testing Center on the Normandale campus, where there is a computer with an external webcam
- You can purchase an external webcam from the Normandale bookstore
