How many credits are considered full time?

Full time (Fall or Spring): Students must be registered for a minimum of 12 credits in the fall or spring semester to be considered a full-time student. The maximum number of credits students can take in the fall or spring semester is 18 credits. If a student is interested in taking more than 18 credits, they will need to meet with their Academic Advisor.  

Full time (Summer): Students must be registered for a minimum of 6 credits over the summer to be considered a full-time student. If a student is interested in taking more than 14 credits over the summer, they will need to meet with their Academic Advisor. 

Part time (Fall or Spring): Students looking to be part time in the fall or spring semester can take anywhere from 1 – 11 credits per semester. 

Part time (Summer): Students must be registered between 1 - 5 credits over the summer to be considered a part time student. 

Minnesota State restricts students to a maximum term enrollment of 22 credits System-wide.
