What is Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), Academic Warning, or Academic Suspension?

Normandale, along with Minnesota State Colleges and Universities and federal/state law, requires students to make Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) toward completing a degree or certificate. Meeting SAP is also required to remain eligible for financial aid.

SAP Standards:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher

  • Successfully complete at least 66.66% of attempted credits

What Happens if You Fall Below These Standards?

  • Academic Warning: If your GPA or completion rate falls below the minimum, you’ll be placed on Academic Warning for the following term.

  • Academic Suspension: If you are on warning and still do not meet the standards, you may be placed on Academic Suspension, and possibly Financial Aid Suspension as well.

  • You will be notified of your status through your Normandale student email.

Support is Available:
Students are encouraged to use the many support services at Normandale, such as advising, counseling, tutoring, mentoring, and special programs. These resources can help you get back on track.
