What is PSEO?

The Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) program allows high school students to enroll in college courses at Minnesota colleges and universities and earn both high school and college credit. Students attend class with college students, either on campus or online. All courses are taught and graded by college faculty.

PSEO is different from other programs because students are considered college students and must follow college-level expectations, but they also retain important rights and supports as high school students under Minnesota law.

Things to Know:

  • College-level rigor: PSEO courses are actual college courses. Course content and expectations reflect the standards of the institution offering the course.

  • Taught at the college: Courses are delivered on campus by college faculty. Many institutions also offer online options. You can find participating Minnesota colleges and universities on the PSEO website.

  • Dual credit: Students earn both high school credit and college credit. Final grades are recorded on a college transcript, and high schools add the course, grade, and credits to the high school transcript.

  • Available to 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students: Eligible students may apply to any participating Minnesota college or university. Admission is not guaranteed; students must meet eligibility requirements and be accepted by the postsecondary institution.

What Makes PSEO Unique:

  • Students are enrolled as both high school and college students.

  • Students attend classes taught by college faculty and are expected to meet college-level standards.

  • Students must apply for admission, follow campus policies, and manage communication independently.

  • Students retain certain high school rights and supports under Minnesota law.

  • PSEO requires careful planning and communication between the student, high school, and college.
