Issue Description
A user experiences an issue in which D2L's "timeout" function causes Respondus LockDown Browser to prevent them from completing the proctor exam in the browser. This could be that the user is working on external physical materials during a test for example showing work on a sheet of paper, that D2L doesn't detect as "activity" since the user isn't typing, clicking/taping or interacting with the D2L "test window" causing D2L to display a warning message "Are You Still There" and eventually logging the user out if the user doesn't click within the "Are You Still There" box to tell D2L that they are still interacting with the test.
Possible Causes
- The user has left the test window idle for too long (30 minutes or more), causing D2L to display the "Are You Still There" message and eventually causing the system to log the user out if the user doesn't click within the "Are You Still There" box to tell D2L that they are still interacting with the test.
- The user is working on external materials such as a scratch paper or notes and is unintentionally leaving the test window idle for too long (30 minutes ot more) causing D2L to display the "Are You Still There" message and eventually logging the user out if the user doesn't click within the "Are You Still There" box to tell D2L that they are still interacting with the test.
Environment
Personal Devices: Equipment owned and maintained by individual users.
Resolution
To prevent D2L from automatically logging you out during a test taken in the Respondus Lockdown Browser after displaying the "Are You Still There" Message, follow the steps below.
- When taking the test in Respondus LockDown Browser, please be mindful of the timeout feature and always look for the "Are You Still There" message displayed at the bottom center of your screen.
- If you see the message, tap or click within the message box that says "Are You Still There".
- Wait until you see the "Oh There You Are" message and the message box to disappear, then continue the exam.
Note: If you forget to tap or click the "Are You Still There" box and/or see a different message box that says "You've Been Away," then you will need to reach out to your instructor to proceed with your test.
