Kaltura Capture issues as of 8.14.2025

Overview:

On August 9, the process used to sign in to D2L Brightspace, Zoom, and Kaltura was transitioned to Microsoft authentication, which required a user sign in change from StarID to Microsoft 365 account (starid@minnstate.edu).

Important Reminder for Faculty and Staff:

Individuals need to logout of ALL systems and log back in to help synchronize profile settings; this includes browser, mobile apps, desktop clients for all applications using Microsoft authentication (now including Brightspace, Zoom, Kaltura). This knowledge base article may be helpful.

While this large and significant transition has gone smoothly overall, Kaltura Media Space (streaming video service used by faculty and staff) is processing this change for existing videos slowly.

Of the 30,000 most active users of Media Space, about 5,000 are left to process; based on the trend over the last 10 days, the automated script should complete processing (about 300,000 more entries) by end of day Friday, 8/22.

Our academic technology team has been processing requests manually as needed and can continue to do so if individuals would like to have their media list fully updated before the script finishes this weekend.

If there is an urgent need to manual processing individuals may submit a ticket requesting that manual transfer.

Note to those with "Dual" roles (those with both a student and an employee account)

The recent update to the sign-in process for D2L, Zoom, and Kaltura has left some users finding issues with Kaltura Media recordings.

Issue #1: Videos are missing from your "My Media" Kaltura Media library.

There is a backlog of videos as of 8.14.25, and you may see a note on the upper left of your MediaSpace page that reads "Older Media Is On Its Way - Thanks for Your Patience!

If you are concerned about missing videos, submit a ticket to the Minnesota State Kaltura team. Ask them to look into, and be sure to provide your StarID.

Issue #2: Newly recorded "Kaltura Capture" recordings are not uploading to your Kaltura Media library.

The following steps should solve the problem.

Step 1: Open your previously-downloaded Kaltura Media application on your device.

Option 1: Find & Open your Kaltura Capture application on your device.

Option 2: Open a browser and navigate to mediaspace.minnstate.edu > Add New > Kaltura Capture.

Step 2: Navigate to the Kaltura Library page of the Kaltura Capture app.

The Kaltura Capture library page has a red "New Recording" button in the upper right corner.

Alternatively, you can open your Kaltura Capture library from the "Manage" link on your recording control panel.

Step 3: Select the "Information" icon from the left-hand side of the panel.

Step 4: Check to see whether your "Connected user" credential is appearing as just your StarID, or your StarID with the new login addition of "@minnstate.edu" or "@go.minnstate.edu"

Scenario 1: Connected user is your StarID@minnstate.edu or StarID@go.minnstate.edu - if this is the case, you are good to go!

Scenario 2: Connected user is your StarID only, as in the screenshot below. If this is the case, follow the steps below to change it.

First, Select the "Sign Out" button

Next, navigate to mediaspace.minnstate.edu, select Add New > Kaltura Capture.

Next, repeat steps 2, 3, and 4 as listed above.

Final step: Check your "Connected user" credentials again to make sure they updated
