MediaSpace Kaltura Capture – install, record, and share: quick guide

“Kaltura Capture” is an embedded tool within MediaSpace for recording video, screencasts, or audio files. Videos can be uploaded directly into D2L Brightspace, or through shared links.

NOTE: Any Zoom recording made "to the cloud" using the host's Minn State Zoom account is automatically transfered to MediaSpace.

1. Go to mediaspace.minnstate.edu

2. Log in with your Star ID and Password

3.  From the “Create" menu select "Capture"

NOTE: If using Kaltura Capture for the first time on this computer,

  1. Select “Windows” or “Mac” and follow your system’s prompts to download and install the software
    download for windows or download for mac
  2. Special note for Mac users:The latest version of Kaltura Capture 5.2.3 requires an updated version of Mac OS. The new System requirements have - Ceased support for macOS versions older than Ventura 13
  3. If you reference Kaltura's System Requirements for Capture knowledge base article, you will notice that Capture now requires macOS Ventura 13 or higher. Capture is currently not supported on mobile, tablet, or Chromebook devices, however Express Capture is available on any WebRTC compatible browser.

  4. To install in Chrome (for example), from the bottom of the page, select the arrow next to the download and select “Open:

  6. After downloading for the first time, return to the “Add New” menu and select “Kaltura Capture” again.

4. Select which recording tools you want to use. To cancel one or more of the tools, just click on its corresponding icon.
 

(In this example, the camera is turned off.)

5. Optional: Select “Manage” for additional settings.

  1. Click on the wheel to open the “Settings” tool

  1. If recording your screen or camera, select “1080p” for your screen recording quality. If recording sound coming from your system (in addition to or instead of your microphone), select “Yes.”

6. Use the control panel to pause or end the recording.

7. After you have stopped your recording, Title your video and select “Save & Upload”

8. Navigate back to your main MediaSpace page, and from your account menu in the upper right corner, select “My Media”

9. Your video or audio file will be at the top of your media list. Once it’s done processing, click on the 3 dot menu on the right side of the video strip for more options.

10. If you wish to trim or cut parts of your media file, follow the directions below.

 

A - From the video’s 3 dot menu, select Edit.

B - In the Editor window, select Launch Editor, which is to the right of the video box.

C - Use the timeline to trim the beginning or end of the clip.

D - If needed, do a web search for “kaltura capture trim” etc. to find tutorials, such as the one below.

11. Publish your video as “Unlisted” to make it viewable to others if shared through a link
 

A- Find the video you want to set to "Unlisted"

B- Select the 3 dot menu and choose "Publish status"

C- In the pop up menu choose "Unlisted

D - You will get a confirmation box. Select Save.
