About

“Express Capture” is a tool within Media Space that allows you to record with your web cam and insert directly into D2L. You can record from the Media Space website and insert into D2L, or record from D2L directly.

Option 1 - From Media Space

Step 1 - Go to mediaspace.minnstate.edu
Step 2 - Log in with your Star ID and Password
Step 3 - From the “Add New” menu, select “Express Capture.”

Option 2 - Recording from D2L

You will most likely use this option if you need to post a video within a discussion post. This will place or embed the video within the discussion text and not as an attachment.

You also have the option to record a video and include it as an attachment but uses a different tool which is built into D2L. Ask your instructor which option they want for the discussion or other assignment.

Step 1 – Select the discussion topic that you wish to record a video in. Select “Start a New Thread”. In the interface that opens, enter a subject title and then in the HTML text box, find and select the “Insert Stuff” tool within the horizontal tool bar.

You will then go through the same recording setup process as in option one. This will include choosing a webcam, mic and screen capture. Then record, stop and choose Record Again, download a copy and Use This. Choose Use This. Note, that with this option you “may” have a time limit of possibly 5 minutes.

Step 5 – After this you will be brought to the name and description edit screen. Fill out those details and then select “Save & Embed” in the bottom right corner. If your web page is not big enough, you may have to scroll down to find that option. Once select, you should next be able to select “Next” (in the bottom left corner) or it may just proceed to the preview window.
