Summary
This article explains when and how to request a rush print job at the Copy Center, the criteria for approval, and what to expect when submitting urgent printing requests.
Body
Sometimes you need print jobs completed faster than the standard turnaround time. The Copy Center offers a rush print job service to accommodate urgent needs whenever possible. Please review the following guidelines to understand when a rush request is appropriate and how to submit it properly.
When Is a Rush Print Job Appropriate?
Rush jobs are reserved for critical, time-sensitive requests such as:
- Exams or quizzes needed the same day or next day
- Last-minute instructional materials for active classes
- Emergency campus announcements
- Urgent event materials with confirmed, imminent deadlines
Rush Job Criteria
To qualify for a rush request, your print job must meet the following:
- Be a standard print job (simple, small-to-medium volume, limited finishing)
- Submitted with a clear and valid justification for urgency
- Submitted in advance of your needed deadline (same day or next day)
- Able to be processed with available staff and equipment resources
Rush Job Limitations
- Large or complex jobs (e.g., booklets, multi-page packets with binding) generally do not qualify for rush processing.
- Rush requests may be declined if the Copy Center is at capacity or staff is unavailable.
- Some finishing services may not be possible on rush orders.
How to Submit a Rush Job Request
- Complete the Copy Center Request Form and check the box indicating a rush request.
- Select all applicable rush criteria to justify your request.
- Provide a brief explanation of why the job is urgent in the “Rush Justification” field.
- Include your supervisor’s name and obtain their approval (signature or email confirmation) if required.
- Submit the form as early as possible—rush jobs are not guaranteed without timely notification.
Important Notes
- Rush jobs may incur additional fees or departmental approval processes depending on workload.
- The Copy Center will communicate if your rush request cannot be accommodated and suggest alternatives.
- Planning ahead is the best way to avoid rush requests and ensure quality service.
