If your instructor requires the use of Honorlock, it's to protect you and the integrity of the exam.
Some reasons for online proctoring include:
- Educationally, online proctoring can help ensure you are prepared and have learned the material well enough to earn a passing grade within the test parameters, and without notes or working with others.
- Logistically, some classes won’t transfer easily to larger institutions if online proctoring is not used.
- For fairness, online proctoring can help ensure that all students are working within the same integrity guidelines.

Honorlock is an online proctoring service that allows you to take your exam from the comfort of your home.

You do not need to create an account, download software or schedule an appointment in advance.

Honorlock is available 24/7 and all that is needed is a computer, a working webcam, and a stable Internet connection

NOTE: Some Chrome browser extensions may interfere with your use of Honorlock, such as Proctorio. Learn more about disabling Proctorio.
When taking an online exam that requires Honorlock:
Follow any specific guidelines provided by your instructor, which may include clarification on the list below:

Ensure you are in a location where you won't be interrupted

Turn off all other devices (e.g. tablets, phones, second computers) and place them outside of your reach

Clear your desk of all external materials not permitted — books, papers, other devices

Before starting the text, know how much time is available for it, and that you’ve allotted sufficient time to complete it

Remain at your computer for the duration of the test
To produce a good webcam recording:
Follow any specific guidelines provided by your instructor, which may include clarification on the list below:

Avoid wearing baseball caps or hats with brims.

If you will be wearing a face or head covering for religious reasons, let your instructor know prior to the exam.

Ensure your computer or tablet is on a firm surface (a desk or table). Do NOT have the computer on your lap, a bed or other surface where the device (or you) are likely to move.

If using a built-in webcam, avoid tilting the screen after the webcam setup is complete.

Take the exam in a well-lit room and avoid backlighting, such as sitting with your back to a window .

Remember that Honorlock will prevent you from accessing other websites or applications (unless allowed by the instructor)

You will be unable to exit the test until all questions are completed and submitted.
1) How do I install and set up Honorlock?
Access your Quiz according to your Instructor's directions.
If you don't already have the Honorlock extension in your Chrome browser, you will be prompted to install it. Click the "I agree" box and "Get Started".

Important!
If you skip the step to add the Honorlock Chrome extension, you may see a "Quiz password" field.
Ignore this password field, and finish adding the Chrome extension for Honorlock to your Chrome browser, as shown above.

Next, review and agree to the terms and conditions:

Follow the prompts to verify your identity and testing environment
This may include showing your ID, taking a photo, conducting a room scan, and sharing your computer screen.
When ready, select the blue "Start Assessment" button:

3) Can I take the test on campus instead of using my own computer?
Answer: Yes, you may come to campus during regular service hours.
If you do not have the appropriate device, you may come to a Normandale campus computer lab, or to the Make-up Testing Center (Room L2740). Or, contact your instructor for further instructions.
4) What do I do if I have problems with Honorlock?
Honorlock provides live chat 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, which you can access directly from D2L. Look for the “Livechat” link:

You will need the Google Chrome browser and your device, and the Honorlock Chrome Extension

You can download the Honorlock Chrome Extension at honorlock.com/extension/install

The webcam can be built into your computer or can be the type that plugs in with a USB cable.

If you do not have the appropriate device, you may come to a Normandale campus computer lab, or to the Make-up Testing Center (Room L2740). Or, contact your instructor for further instructions.
Honorlock Reminders:
- Honorlock is a Chrome extension for use with Chrome or other browsers as allowed, with the exception of Safari.
- Honorlock cannot be used on ipads.
