Turnaround Times: What to Expect

Summary

This article explains how long it typically takes to complete Copy Center print requests, how job complexity affects timing, and how to plan your submissions to avoid delays.

Body

The Copy Center strives to provide timely, high-quality service for all your printing needs. However, turnaround times may vary depending on the volume, complexity, and staffing levels at the time of your request. Please review the following guidelines to help plan your requests effectively.

Typical Turnaround Times

Job Type Turnaround Time Examples
Standard Jobs 2-3 business days Syllabi, memos, handouts, simple flyers
Large or Complex Jobs 5-10 business days Booklets, bound packets, event programs, mass mailings
Rush Jobs (if accepted) Same-day or next-day Exams, last-minute class materials, emergency announcements

Note: Times are estimates. Workload, equipment availability, and staffing may impact actual turnaround.

Peak Period Turnaround

During high-volume times—such as 2-3 weeks before term start and during mid-terms/finals—turnaround times are extended:

Job Type Peak Turnaround Time
Standard Jobs 4-5 business days
Large/Complex Jobs 7-12 business days

Please submit your requests well in advance during these periods to ensure timely completion.

Factors That Affect Turnaround

  • Job Size: Larger jobs (high page counts or large quantities) require more time.
  • Finishing Requirements: Stapling, folding, binding, and other services add processing time.
  • Staffing Levels: Fewer available staff during breaks, illness, or peak times may cause delays.
  • File Quality: Submitting a clean, properly formatted file (preferably PDF) reduces the risk of delays.

Planning Tips

  • Submit requests as early as possible, especially at the start of a semester or before major events.
  • Avoid submitting jobs the same day you need them—use campus MFPs (SecurePrint) for 1–2 page urgent items.
  • For rush jobs, fill out the rush section of the request form and include your justification.

Need a Rush Job?

Rush requests may be considered based on:

  • Urgent academic need (e.g., exam that day)
  • Available staff and resources
  • Job type (rush not available for bound booklets or large jobs) All rush requests must include justification and may require supervisor approval.
